April 10 - Logan: James 1:26,27

I think that these verses are talking about how if you are religious but you go around gossiping or cursing then you are acting just like a non-Christian and also I could see this on our trip if someone is trying to do something serious and then another person starts lieing or yelling; then their goal will not be accomplished. Aslo, these verses are talking about how you are supposed to help people that are already in bad situations like an orpahn or a wido and you are suppose to focus on not picking up the bad habits of our world. ~Logan

What do you feel? What is God seeming to be saying to you through these verses?

i think this is a great verse to start with. i like how it says that if you talk the talk but dont walk the walk its just hot air and only hot air. and 1:27 is pretty much the mission of life or at least for us and i think its great. good job logan

I agree wholeheartedly. If you brag about being religious, but don't follow through the bible says "your religion is worthless"(26). Verse 27 is exactly what I always thought missions was...helping those in need.

I totally agree. It's pointless to just go around saying things if you're not going to get up and do something about it. And I really like what verse 27 says. It's totally relevant to us too.

so yeah i agree with what Logan said about the gossiping and stuff. But what I thought of after reading through it was "don't just talk the talk, but walk the walk". There are some people I've seen who have claimed to be Christians, but they don't practice what they preach.

I think these verses mean that words without actions do you no good. You must do both in order to succeed.

I really like these two verses. I think that, of course, it is important for us to 'walk the walk', 'practice what we preach', etc.

This verse also really relates to our trip. We will 'reach out to the homeless and loveless' and by talking to people about God, we will 'guarding against corruption from the godless world'.

I think that it's saying that if you tell everyone you're a christian with nothing behind it- you're probably not. And people will most likely see straight through you- which isn't helping you and it isn't helping God. So... to be a christian is to help the poor in spirit and poor finacially, and poor in other ways... thats what I think.

The first thing that came to my mind when reading this is that when you say all those things but don't put actions behind it, not only are you deceiving the others around you, but, ultimately, you're ripping off yourself when you could get the most out of life by living this way.

Then in the last verse, it's true, that this is what God is all about. Loving others, even though sometimes...okay...a lot of times it's hard too.

I agree with all of you, it is a really good verse and it is like meant to be for us right now. I mean we talk about God, pray and worship, but this is going to be real work, mission to help, to actually do what we talk about. Serve people who need it.

Cassie made a really good point about loving others. We are going to LA to show others that we care because a lot of tehm don't get that shown to them. I also agree with what Logan said about how we act as christians. I think a lot of people have the wrong impression of christians because of the way some act.

So these verses make a lot of sense. I mean, how can someone go around and say they are a christian and then turn right around and curse and drink, etc.? And the other verse really speaks to me. I like that it says that we should not be polluted by the world, becuase in truth, that is certainly easier said than done...but it is nice to have something to aspire to right?

I really like this verse. I think every one falls away by acting this way, but dont realize that they are. This verse, I think, makes you look back and think about how you act.

You must live up to Gods standards if you want to be a Christian. If you don't you are just wasting your time telling people you're a Christian and all that if you turn around and start sinning.
