This is what the Lord says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of his oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the alien, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place. So he says to do what is right and you shall be forgiven. I think that what he is saying here, to put these things into practice in our own lives, as we see all sorts of people in our lives who aren't doing these things. ~Kelsey
What do you think? What does this look like for us?
I think that in this situation or all the time it is our obligation to help those in need and not mistreat people. Be fair to people. Look out for the people that don't know how to look after themselves.
To me, this verse outlines our job right here in Albany, in LA, and everywhere we go. To do all that we can to help the homeless, the orphans and the widows. ~Heidi
I'm thinking this verse describes everything we'll be doing in LA...well except that i can't see having to stop murders coming into play. I think it's also something that can and hopefully will be applied to our lives outside of mission trips..
What it looks like for us...Standing up for those who are picked on at school, ex: The "intelligent" insulting those they think in their arrogance are inferior to themselves, but then standing up for the one insulted. It could be refusing to take part in the spread of a rumour, and trying to stop it.
It could be treating every one equally and lovingly no matter their appearance, intelligence, athleticness, etc..
I think that actively keeping ourselves up to the standards set out in this verse would not only change us, and those we help. But it might also attract others who actively watch us Christians(don't tell me they don't watch, I've had a few experiences with NonChristians about it this year), waiting for us to mess up, to be drawn to the savior we serve.
i agree with Chelsea- that Jeremiah was telling us, as christians, that these are our jobs to do, and to do them. period. it makes me wonder that if he had to tell people to do it- then they weren't doing it.
I agree with everybody else in that this verse is telling us to help those in need and to be fair: a simple concept, right? But a super important one. We should be fair to people in our everyday life and when we go to LA and also help those who can't help themselves at anytime.
The part i like is where it says set all things right between people. Cause it sounded as if we had a duty to help others and the less fortunate, but i see it as that we need to be right with everyone. that we dont need to hold grudges or hates against people. even though its really hard to forgive and forget i think thats a part of us being Christians is that we love all in that way. thats what i feel about it.
Although this verse applies enormously to our trip to L.A.. It also reminds me a lot of how the structure of our team should be. Like not slamming each other down everytime we have the chance even though it might seem funny at the time...it can cut deeper than we think it does...easier said than done. But whoever said being a Christian would be easy?
This also brings back memories of dare 2 share. The guy was saying that to start a revolution you, first, have to start a revolution within yourself. Fix the plank in your own eye. Dang.
This is a very short but powerful vers. It has a lot of hidden between the lines, like Aaron said. We need to help people, take care of others, but we also need to look for how we handle our everyday life, if we are able to forgive, be nice, willing to listen to people any time they need. We need to look out, because some people, maybe even someone very close to us can have a hard time expressing their feeling and saying NO, and we are maybe unintentionally taking advantage of them. So what I am saying is that there is lot of people that do not seem like they need our help, but maybe in their heart they do not know what to do with themselves, maybe they do not know God, and that is what we should look for. Barbora
The part that stuck out the most for me was don't take advantage of the homeless. I think that is what a lot of people tend to do. I think that we are going to LA to show people that we really do care and let them know that not everyone takes advantage of them and ignores them because of where they may live.
Do what God wants us to. Thats all that He wants from us, to treat each other good and be just in our decisions. Do not fight, help others find God and not the devil. ~Jacob
I think it's sort of our job to do what it's saying. We have to look out for the people who can't look out for themselves.
