sorry this one is late, I've been out for a few, so I'm catching up...
You need to talk to others and try to introduce them to God every chance you have because there are so many other people that have had the chance and pased it up. Also you must stand up for people that might have the same beliefs as you or maybe you can talk to them about God. ~Jacob
It seems like especially in high school there is always that one kid in your class that is always getting picked on for one reason or another. They just kind of sit there and don't say anything and just hang their head. This verse explains to us that when we see something like that happening that we need to stick up for them. Or in any situation like that. When we see something wrong happening, we should step up and say something, anything.
To me this really speaks of standing up for those of our fellow classmates. You know the ones, the ones that are pushed aside, teased, etc. If we want to make an impact we can start with them because at least as teenagers we hold some weight against our own generation.
When we go to tackle the needs of the poor and such it will be a bit harder. We as christians need to stand up for them though because Christ did. If we just sat by and watched as the world shunned those who are of different social class, what would that make us?
But back to the verses- This, again, is hard for me. To speak up for people I love is hard enough sometimes, but for people I don't know? Maybe it's talking about people you do know and do care about. But it's hard for me personally, either way- and I see God helping me with that... but He and I have a long way to go.
So way easier said than done. Sometimes it's so hard to just open your mouth and say something, but that's exactly what the verses are saying to do. Stepping out of your comfort zone and just speaking up. Just speaking your mind in general. Speaking for the people who can't speak for themselves.
Yeah we are supposed to stand up for others who are the underdogs. Those who have been shunned by society. Defend their rights. Protect them. But will we actually do it the next time we see it take place at school? That's what this verse is challenging us to do all the time.
So I don't know about you guys, but reading through this, I can picture those certain people that are teased daily and I don't do anything about it. So this verse is saying stand up for them cause God would stand up for us. But I agree, way easier said than done. I think this applies to us cause a lot of the homeless are teased or beat up and God wants us to stand up for them cause they have the same rights as we do.
For me this totally hits home, because it's telling us to stand up and be heard, say what you mean etc. Which can be way hard to do. Sometimes for me there is just something I just want to say, stand up for people. But it just won't come out. I really wanna say it, it just won't come out. I think it's really hard for me to just step out of my comfort zone and say something. this is totally something that I need to work on!
the first thing i thought of was immigrants, i like how many peolpe are standing up to others becase they dont have a voice in our society and they do all the labor, so i think that we need to stick up for everyone, and the second verse "Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy" at work all the time people that work here are judging what people are doing or why they are in the store gettin money and it hurts because i try to look at everyone one in the same way, but i know i still judge, it seems as if they just dont look at the world in the same way i do and im glad that God is in my life and i want others to know about him.
This verse covers a lot of people and a lot of things and that is why I like it. To me the first part is about the people that get picked on, no one listens to them because they are not "cool" enough or whatever and I think we shuouldn just look at them suffering but stand up and speak up, maybe show them how to respond, make them part of the group. Speak up and support each other. And the second part is telling me to look at what I do maybe not even realizing it. Sometimes everyone judges people just by looking at them or by minor things that do not even matter, and so I think tj=his is telling us to look deeper, treat poeple like we want to be treated, fairly. barb
There are a lot of kids in my school that get picked on...and even though I always feel bad when it happens I've never really had the guts to say anything. Everytime I don't I feel terrible and I know that if I had said something I'd feel good instead. One thing we'll see down in LA is the point of view of the person that gets picked on...immigrants, homeless, and poor. It'll be difficult I'm sure, but I think that it will help all of us a ton in understanding and speaking up for them. ~Heidi
