May 11 - Brianna: Job 5:8-16
Tuesday, May 16, 2006
I think these verses are talking about how omnipotent (click for definition) God is. It talks about how people are crafty and try to trick others, but God thwarts them. At the end of the section, it says the "downtrodden are saved by God," and that they are saved from those that would hurt them, by the grace of God. At the beginning it says that you should go straight to God because he is merciful and cares about you. ~ Brianna

The very last verse in the message version is so important to me:

And so the poor continue to hope, while injustice is bound and gagged. That's the real heart of my love for serving in the inner city as much as we can...

I like the 5:9 verse where it says : "After all, he's famous for great and unexpected acts; there's no end to his surprises". Last year me being put where i was put to work at really did surprise me. I wasn't used to just going up to somebody and beginning a conversation, much less a converstion about God. So just to kind of go through that and eventually see the out come of that. That in the end i was comfortable and did grow outside my box in that area surpised me. and it was definitely and unexpected act atleast for me to be put there. So this year it will be interesting to see what unexpected act or surprise God has for each of us this year.

I think that this verse really shows how amazing God is. He can do all things at all times. There is not one thing that escapes his attention and no matter how hard we try we can't sneak anything past God. And the opposite with how He treats the "bad people" He is always on the lookout for the poor. He watches out for them in ways that our world does not.

Is there anyone that can't be considered down trodden? At one point we all are, aren't we? Or am I just not getting the meaning of the word? Verses like this- i love. Because they assure me of God's true love for me, even when I do stupid things, and also it tells me to show the same love to people who do stupid things just like me.

God is absolutely amazing. For me, these verses are sort of just reminding me over and over again of all these amazing things God can do. And yet, sometimes I find myself having a hard time handing everything over to him. Letting him take the reins. And think that's really important for me remember to do while we're in L.A. I need to trust God to take care of things and for him to use me in whatever surprising way he chooses.

God is famous for surprises. Just when you think there is no hope at all, that's when God intervenes. He doesn't abandon the poor, he doesn't abandon us. We see him work when there is no hope left.

the verses kind of just overwhelm you with all the things that are happening in the world today that we can be helping or what Jesus has done, its so great that we have a Trinity that does so much in our lifes. it good to see him be able to work through us indeed.

There are so many times that I've doubted that God will come through for me...but He never has. This passage is just another reminder of His excellent powers. When we're in LA our job is to make sure that everyone else knows what God does for us...what power He has in our lives...that hope He can give anyone and everyone.

I really like verse 9 when it talks about his unexpected acts. It just reminds me that anything can happen in LA, even the unexpected. As Michelle said, we don't know what groups and situations we are going to be in and I can't wait to see what God has in store for all of us, and how we handle certain things.

God is with us at all times, we never know what He is going to do and when, He is full of suprises and He can do anything like that, and that is what I love about Him.
I am excited to go and help poeple in LA, because there is tons of them that still believe they just need a little push and help from God through us.
