This passage is so cool. You see what this person is saying is that his forefathers and mothers all are believers and that he is following in that line of beliefs. ~Dustin

So, how are we following others who went before us?

I think verse 1 applies to us the most. We are carrying out God’s plan and going to LA. I think God has specifically given each of us a different assignment in our lives and even on the trip. I also think that us going and sharing our faith with these people, they will be able to share their faith to their kids and so on down through generations. Just like we should with our kids and grandkids.

Verse one applies so much to us. That we are to be carrying out God's purpose or plan He made for us. This is really eye opening in that we realize after reading this that we are afftecting more than just right now. We effect everybody else's right now and also their future. If we save somebody today, they'd grow and know Christ and be saved forever, but if we don't well then of course they will maybe do things in their life that they shouldn't of done and then just go to hell. And we are followers of those who went before us in our actions. Jesus we before us and we try to be like him everyday.

I agree with all three of you guys...this is Paul's mission statement, but it should be all of ours as well. What we're going to do down in LA is going to hopefully effect a lot of people. I'm excited to do what I can for God's mission.

I think we follow the example of other Christians who went before us. Ok, so obviously, the all time best example to follow is Jesus, but there are a ton of others who were regular people doing totally outstanding things for God - all these people who went against the flow of things and made a difference. And I think it's really encouraging to know that there were people who went before us, following the same path we are now.

i think that this verse is telling us that if we want to pray and really care about somthing that it can't be just a little two minute thing that we drag ourself to think about and we use the same words every time because u don't use say that stuff when u have a conversation with people and so i think that this verse is telling us that are prayers need to be more elaborate

I think this applies more to Vancouver and past mission trips, well future ones could be included as well. It could count as each other too.

Those we left behind in the past I haven't stopped praying for, and I look forward to the reunion that we'll all have one day.

It is good byes like these that I realize will also happen in the future not only to those we will end up serving but to each other.

Hmm, it's interesting to think that we are following others who came before us. But at the same time, we are setting our own path because of the ideas we are going to bring to this mission. Maybe we are following the outline of what others have done, but we are molding it to our own shape I think.

I tihmk that we need to follow the ones before us and follow God, but we are also putting part of ourselves in, because every individual hase something wonderful to offer and that is great. I think down in LA everyone will be better in something than everybody else, but with cooperation and love we will be one great God's team.

We're following the ones who went before us all the way up to Jesus! By following their example and taking a step up. I love how Paul talked to Timothy- maybe in like fifty years James will be saying the same thing to us as we're grown and doing missionary work in our adult lives. hah.

I think some of this has to do with our elders teaching us things and us following in their footsteps. That is hopefully if they are good steps to follow.

Oh and the part about triggering memories...perhaps could it be that we might have memories triggered by all the poverty or something..?
